pic a plate: Pollo Campero, Elizabeth, NJ

now i usually do restaurant reviews but this place is too good to pass up. i am actually hesitant on posting this because i want it all for me! mine! mine! mine! mine! mine! introducing a Guatemalan fried and grilled chicken fast food restaurant: Pollo Campero

i was up in Elizabeth last week or 2 weeks on business and was hungry. decided to explore the area a bit for food. lots of diverse culture in this particular neighborhood off Broad St. i saw signs for Colombian, Haitian, and other Latin American cuisines. some look like a sit down, afternoon spot while some looks a bit shady. i decided to keep walking for about another 15 minutes and stumbled across a shopping center with this magnificent store at the edge. it looks legit. clean. what's also important was inviting. i went in, and it was set up like your typical KFC and Popeye's. i needed a minute because their sides were consisted of the word Campero (which i told my boy it meant 'camp', so Pollo Campero means Chicken Camp or Camp Chicken lol he called my BS but he can't disprove me) like Campero beans,
and Campero rice. they also had regular sides like cole slaw (not good, not recommended), mashed potatoes and i think mac and cheese. of course there's more but i'm not going to be listing the whole menu.

anyway. i didn't know what to order so i went with what i know best: family meal. i ordered a 10 piece mixed, half grilled and half fried. the grilled chicken were lime flavored. they were tender, quite delicious. mild yet tangy. the fried were more up my alley. they were fucking delicious!

great texture. excellent seasoning. it also has like a buttery/creamy aftertaste like they used a certain kind of buttermilk to coat the chicken. it is so good...so good that the picture was a few days later i came back with my boy after our New York shindig. ordered ourselves a 15 piece family meal of straight up fried chicken
we polished majority of it. we had 4 left. i did the most damage with 7 pieces while he had 4. pussy. he claimed that it's the best fried chicken he ever had. when i told my buddy that, he said he believe him since he's black so he got creds. lol i can't blame him. i'd be more of the food connoisseur but whatever. we had a great ass time. food was impeccable. ride was smooth back. speaking of back, i'm heading up North again so you know i'm getting a meal to take home. yes sir. shame, but actually glad, they aren't located down here or else these rachet asses down here would ruin it. like Bart Scott said,
overall: 4.5/5 - the coleslaw needs work but besides that, close to perfect as you can get
