Birdfeed PSG2 vs Patriots

-Birdfeed: just a Philadelphia Eagles game feedbacks, inputs, and random junks
-PreSeason Game2: vs New England Patriots

-Flight Time:
unlike many other primetime preseason football, this one between 2 Super Bowl bound teams did NOT include much starters like Tom Brady, Rob Gronkowski, Brandon Lloyd, Aaron Hernandez, Logan Mankins, Vince Wilfork and some other players i'm sure. well, the Eagles decided they too shall rest their startin QB Michael Vick...but..not by choice. on the 6th play, ironically like last game, Vick got hurt tryna extend a play instead of just throwin it away or goin down. G Evan Mathis let a lineman get by him; therefore, pressurin Vick...he then scrambled to his right where T Todd Herremans let another lineman threw and drilled Vick as he chucked it downfield. Vick eventually left, got x-rayed, came back negative, and sat out the entire game. now besides the obvious that what he did was stupid - a positive came out of it was that it gave rookie QB Nick Foles another opportunity to shine, much like last week. this time, he has the entire 1st half and 3rd quarter to do so
Foles was stepped in while we were down 11-0 and brought us back the lead. he scored 2 TDs, both to TE Clay Harbor and looked really, really good. despite playin against 2's and 3's, he still looked unphased by the moment and opportunity. he took a hard hit, which was called for roughin the passer, but got back up and made another pass. he was calm, poised, and made good decision throws...except for 1 when he chucked it in the endzone while in field goal range that got picked off. the ball was intended for WR DeSean Jackson had too much air under it and fell short. however...Jackson came back and made a great stop
Foles and Jackson did connect on a 40+yds play that gave him 4 catches for 82yds. QB Trent Edwards finished off the Patriots and was pretty decent, 6/11 for 59yds. if it wasn't for his targets droppin passes, he would've had stats

now, defense was the other story to this game. while the unit as a whole gave up 20+ penalties, the defense was responsible for most of them with holdin calls and a couple of roughin the passer, with a few shaky calls by these scab refs. DT Fletcher Cox and DE Darryl Tapp both got call for roughin the passer and CB Nnamdi Asomugha on the hold. however, we did come up with 2 sacks, 1 was a sack and stripped by DE Phillip Hunt and another by DT Cedric Thorton. the d-line was relentless as the rotations kept them fresh throughout the entire game. the 2nd line of defense in the linebackers was ok. LB Mychael Kendricks was a beast and all over the field. 2 mistakes that he did made was he was too eager on a play that lead to an 18yd screen and poor coverage in the endzone that led to a TD by a backup's backup's backup TE. now LB DeMeco Ryans didn't showed any flashes...he had 1 key stop on a 3rd down but he got burned on 1 play and got lucky that a TE dropped the pass in front of him. secondary wise, CB DRC had a great game. he had an interception that was nullified due to a penalty...and a couple of good pass breakups. Nnamdi also had a good game playin press and had a really good tackle for loss on sniffin out a screen. S Nate Allen also had a strong game with a pass breakup deep and CB Curtis Marsh finally showed that he can play that physical corner by breakin up multiple passes 1 on 1 on his side. can't complain too much though cuz defense did kept them to only 1 TD and 17 points and 204yds for the night. not bad...

-Top Birds:
-rookie QB Nick Foles: obviously had an excellent game. he was 18/28, 217yds. took control of the 1's and played very well in Vick's absence
-rookie LB Mychael Kendricks: showin that the Eagles made a great decision. fillin that toughness we need in the linebackers corps and has a very good sense for where the ball is. need to be better in coverage as far as not bein too overly anxious
-rookie DT Fletcher Cox: shown that he can get off blocks and penetrate easily. had a bad call on him, but understandable...either way, still love the effort
-CB Curtis Marsh: good to know that someone can step up in case Nnamdi or DRC goes down. maybe push the 3rd or 4th CB job
-TE Clay Harbor: had prolly his best game to date. he was 6 for 30yds, 2TDs...good blockin. really complement Brent Celek to be a legitimate duel TEs threat
-FB Stanley Havili: had that great 14yds inside run to the 1yd line. move quick and good ball security through all those arms. had a great block in the endzone for LeSean McCoy to get in for the TD. he might be securin the sole FB position
-rookie RB Bryce Brown: man the kid can run. big body but good hands. he was excellent on the cut back, bouncin outside. even in the middle he had a good run that flipped him over but kept goin. he's really separatin himself from rookie RB Chris Polk, who also had a great game, and had that hard nose runnin/hittin ability, too

overall - it's another preseason game. time to cut back on mental mistakes and eliminate costly penalties that allow the other team to stay on the field. that can be fix because i remember when T Jason Peters stayed gettin calls for false starts...but he turned out to be the most valuable lineman. besides that, let's hope Vick can stay healthy and let's keep these games interestin but healthy...please

-Injury Report:
obviously, QB Michael Vick's injury which turned out to be just a contusion. DE Jason Babin, LB Jamar Chaney and Casey Matthews all didn't play due to minor injuries. WR Riley Cooper and QB Mike Kafka are obviously out, prolly 'til regular season. DRC suffered a shoulder injury but wanted to return but was advised not to and S Tom Nelson looked like had an ankle sprain. overall nothin serious
