Birdfeed PSG1 vs Steelers

hopefully i'll stick to this format...

-Birdfeed: just a Philadelphia Eagles game feedbacks, inputs, and random junks
-PreSeason Game1: vs Pittsburgh Steelers

-Flight Time:
it started off nicely as they paid tribute to Andy Reid's late son, Garrett Reid
but then, it's FOOTBALL TIME! and the Steelers started off early as they converted multiple first-downs. even though i felt our defense played adequately...they COULD be better. they did only give up 3 pts to Ben Roethlisberger...however, they gave up a TD from Byron Leftwich which showed a breakdown in communication between CB Nnamdi Asomugha and S Jaiquawn Jarrett. it's all good...cuz Mike Kafka came in and didn't do any better. he gave up an interception that almost led to a TD but luckily runnin back Bryce Brown stopped the d-man. we ended the 1st half with the score 13-0. not a good start
there was a glimmer of hope as rookie QB Nick Foles came in the 3rd quarter, took charge, looked poised, and scored 2 TD, 1 to rookie WR Damaris Johnson and 2yr WR Mardy Gilyard, to put the Birds in the lead. AWESOME! of course, there was a blown call of a block from the back by one of the Steelers which led to a TD. but this is the preseason, and these are substitution refs...so..whatever
the 4th quarter saw the re-emergence of veteran QB Trent Edwards. he looked pretty good. did some good things, eluded trouble, and made some good throw. especially a pass that led to a TD by WR Jamel Hamler. but again, the Steelers didn't give up that easy and went down field and got a field goal. so what we do? march down the field and let Alex Henery kick a 51yd field goal to win the game!!
much was due to Edwards and his 2-minutes drill and precision but man that was an excitin kick. the kick had an extra 5yds to it as well and that definitely gave us some extra confident in Henery's leg
here's some players that made a great impact and contribution durin the game:

-Top Birds:
-rookie DE Vinny Curry: played very nicely. had 3 TFL...rushed the QB well, and applied pressure consistently
-rookie QB Nick Foles: the 6'6" passer looks like he's ready for primetime. despite him playin against 3rd strings, Foles look poised in the pocket. he made great decision and had great pocket awareness
-rookie return men CB Brandon Boykin and WR Damaris Johnson: both had great speed, great vision...and had very good returns. they definitely made our ST looked improved
-rookie LB Mychael Kendricks: looks VERY impressive. he had good speed, good tacklin...he was smart and was able to made a couple of stop. overall he performed how excpected
-2yr DE Phillip Hunt:  2 sacks out of the 7 Eagles sacks...he applied great pressure and consistent motor. he had a very good game and played very well along side DE Darryl Tapp
-2yr DT Cedric Thorton: although he didn't see the field much last season, he definitely made an impact durin the 4th quarter. tremendous penetration, had a sack and 2 TFL...played very well inside
-others who made some contributions included DT Derek Landri had a huge TFL, CB Joselio Hanson had a good stop on a 3rd down pass, and DE Xavier Brown and LB Monte Taylor had a sack each

overall - it is a preseason game...we definitely have alot of work to do...i know what our starters are capable of, but i'm very satisfied in knowin their backups are more than qualified to step up

-Injury Report:
WR Jeremy Maclin didn't play with a hamstring injury he suffered durin warm up. DT Cullen Jenkins and RB Dion Lewis left with hamstrings. players like DE Trent Cole and Jason Babin didn't start, DT Mike Patterson is out for precautionary reason after his surgery, TE Brent Celek and S Nate Allen were also kept out. besides that, team looks pretty healthy - none of the players kept out were for anythin serious, besides WR Riley Cooper with the collarbone fracture...he will return for the regular season
