as i tried to forget what could've happened - i can't shake the fact that it did happened. goin as far as to say my worst nightmares came true is kinda a stretched when it's really my anxieties and doubts about this young Philadelphia Eagles team that reared it's ugly head durin the 27-20 loss to the Green Bay Packers on Sunday afternoon. it's that feelin as i watch our "savior" QB Kevin Kolb gettin flushed out the pocket and runnin for his life all 1st half of the quarter and until finally...it hits him. and when i say it, i mean the LB Clay Matthews. it's an eerie similarity feelin that reminds me of how Donovan McNabb used to scrambled for his life to get away from the Dallas Cowboys' DE DeMarcus Ware or NT Jay Ratliff. but when they get hit...they get hit. but the difference is: McNabb tough it out; Kolb doesn't.
it clearly showed after gettin sacked by Matthews because he couldn't feel the pressence of this 200+lbs beast breathin down his neck while frantically tryin to make a play with his wet noodle legs. the result? a face full of turf and a concussion. trailin after the half, Michael Vick came in and rallied the Birds back to a 1 posession game usin his legs and even a couple of good throws. durin a redzone play for what seeminly an easy rushin TD for Vick to the right side...he decides to prove that he can be the pocket QB and throw to a covered DeSean Jackson in the endzone which ended in an incomplete and 3 points by David Akers.
the play that sealed the deal was was actually done on the sideline by coach Andy Reid. what was thought to be the problem with Reid last few years has not change one bit. besides the valiant effort to establish a more runnin game, it was the poor, poor clock/time management that hurted us in the end. with 5 minutes left in the 4th quarter, Reid already blown 2 timeouts. so after a failed 4th and 1 play when the Packers so effortlessly stopped Vick from runnin it in the middle (instead of end around because Vick has been successful of that the entire 2nd half and all of the d-line was stacked in the center) for a 1st down because of how predictable we are...we somehow ran out of TO and Green Bay were abled to take a knee with over 90 seconds left!
*exhale*
but not all hope is diminished. the defense, i felt, played outstandinly well compared to last year. rookie S Nate Allen got his 1st interception (1st Eagles rookie to do it since Eric Allen...coincidence? hmm...) and so did CB Hoselio Hanson (who really only got it cuz crazy ass Stewart Bradley flyin around and knockin it out of S Quintin Mikell's hand and into Hanson's (who by the way was horrible @ coverage and the wife and i agreed should be cut...or at least go to another team). DE Juqua Parker notched himself 2 sacks on QB Aaron Rodgers as did Trent Cole. is it me or does Brandon Graham looked sloppy and out of shape? @ one point all i see from him was him rollin on a tackle and never really puttin full pressure on the QB. they don't get enough credits but DT Mike Patterson and Brodrick Bunkley are 2 unstoppable run-stoppers and didn't allow much yards on the ground from Green Bay. i want to remind myself that as good as CB Asante Samuel is, i can't always rely on him to save the game with turnovers or tackles because he's not perfect. granted he played very well that game but he dropped what was an EASILY ball thrown directly @ him and he went to tackle the TE Jermichael Finley and just bounced off. i also hate to point this out but yes Omar Gaither, everyone feels like a starter but you're lack of effective tacklin and gettin blown by does not really help your case. due to LB Stewart Bradley out with a concussion after collidin with fellow LB Ernie Sims (who didn't get any credit for toughen it out after the hit on his thigh), Gaither stepped in as the MLB and just...played like a backup. i thought Quintin Mikell played excellent, providin alot of help to the corners...but you shouldn't always have to have the safeties save you because they got their coverages, too. so when WR Greg Jennings flew passed CB Ellis Hobbs UNTOUCHED and waltzed in for a TD...the safeties can't fly over there because you didn't jammed him within that legal zone. *sigh* gotta give credit to C Mike McGlynn who stepped in for Jamaal Jackson...he's hella atheltic; catchin a tipped ball out of the air from RB LeSean McCoy and then hurdlin over a guard to go after his block on a screen. well done!
sad to say there are some major key injuries resultin the game. praised C Jamaal Jackson for a speedy and early recovery from a torn ACL, major concerned was that be Jackson ended up leavin the game and prolly for the season with a torn bicep. the beloved Pro-Bowl FB Leonard Weaver was held @ the ankles and body bent forward by dirty ass faggot LB Nick Barnett.
and you know what that resulted in? a torn acl for the season...and the nerves of this bitch to not come over and apologize or see how he's doin...i know football is a dirty game but you're all brothers and professional in this league and for that shit to happen without any proper sportsmanship is uncalled for. oh, just because somebody's famous doesn't mean you can't throw a flag @ him, refs! i don't care if S Charles Woodson saves the planet, he shouldn't be able to get away with holdins and pass interferences - especially obvious ones! the head referee for this game was atrocious. callin every penalties in the book against the Birds...but then again, it has always been like this. FUCK YOU, REFS! note: Bradley and Kolb will be back once cleared to play and Reid so strongly agree that Kolb will start, despite Vick bein obviously, BETTER!
on a happier note: nothin makes me feel better than watchin the Cowboys lose. it brought me great joy when the Minnesota Vikings ran up the score against them in their 1st playoff appearance and it was a great joy yesterday to watch their defeat by a division rival, the Washington Redskins. not only that, the Skins were lead by former division rival Eagles, Donnovan McNabb. not only that, but they had an opportunity to win it with that TD pass to Roy Williams in the end zone if it wasn't for the choke hold LT Alex Barren had on the DE, which stripped away the TD, which made it a 7-13 game! woo-hoo!! horseface Miles Austin can only do so much before he out-galloped himself...you can ride Mare Austin for so long...tsk-tsk...however; i gotta give it up for QB Tony Romo in that wildcat formation where he lined up outside against CB LaRon Landry try to shake him off while Landry just stood there...pretty hilarious (also note that pretty hilarious moment on Thursday night game against the New Orleans Saints, QB Brett Farve threw an interception and pointed like it was a fumble recovery where guys point @ which side has it)
