Birdfeed PSG2 vs Ravens

-Birdfeed: just a Philadelphia Eagles game feedbacks, inputs, and random junks

-PreSeason Game1: vs Baltimore Ravens

-Flight Time:

the Eagles kicked off first as Baltimore received. LB Bryan Braman set the tone on special team with a nice big hit on the returner
next up was QB Sam Bradford. it's Eagles fans first glimpse at the future QB hopefully for years to come if he can stay healthy and is good as advertised. he did good throwing. he was 3/5 for 35yds. no TD but no INT. he was a bit rusty at first, overthrowing WR Riley Cooper but then again, Cooper was slow anyway. Bradford did seems to have gotten more comfortable as the game progresses. we will get a bigger sample in Game 3. what was good to see was that he got up after getting hit low illegally by Terrell Suggs and a good clean hit to the chest by a defensive lineman. the negative about that play besides the hit was the fact that it was All-Pro C Jason Kelce allowing the NT to get through. very sloppy. even though Bradford looks in pain, he looked good

of course, Darren Sproles looks good. he continues to be a mismatched for LBs as he converted a 3rd down right in the middle. that set up a redzone trip where RB Ryan Matthews scored the 1st TD, easy. he was seemingly untouched
forgot to mentioned that the offense was set up only after CB Nolan Carroll deflected a pass in endzone into hands of S Walter Thurmond. he returned it for 31yds that set up the Matthews TD. the 1st team o-line looks good. however, d-line was bad though. 1st 2 snaps they were allowing big chunk runs and a 4th down run conversion. horrible. when they didn't slacked off, Bennie Logan is a beast. Connor Barwin is a great tackler. Malcolm Jenkins stay cleaning up missed tackles of other defensive players
Mark Sanchez got the start after 1 series. he looked good. better than last week. he handed the ball off to DeMarco Murray who ran it in for a 7yd TD. another easy score. hopefully we can keep the consistency up in the regular season. and of course, the offense was set up after a Byron Maxwell INT off Joe Flacco overthrowing his receiver
RB Kenjon Barner returned another punt for a TD to go into the half leading 24-0. again he's really making a case for himself. the 2nd team o-line struggled. G Matt Tobin allowed a sack. so did G John Moffitt cuz he sucks. QB Matt Barkley started the 3rd and did a solid job. made some good throws, especially to WR Rasheed Bailey. rookie RB Raheem Morstert and Kevin Monangai (even though he fumbled and lost later in the 4th) did a good job running the ball. Barkley was able to convert a 3rd and 11 to WR Seyi Ajirotutu but he couldn't make the catch and got called for an offensive PI for a push off. K Cody Parkey nailed the 35yd FG.

rookie LB Jordan Hicks needs to close quicker cuz he kept getting burned. while newly acquisition LB Diaheem Watkins have been making some nice tackles and getting in the backfield quite often. speaking of LB, with Marcus Smith out, Vinny Curry is taking alot of snaps at OLB so he's getting a taste of covering, not just rushing. he bit on some play action plays quite a bit but i really like Curry so he's excused

the Ravens finally scored, easily. LB Naje Goode got ran over by a RB (smh) but later made a good penetration on a 2-point conversion. on that play, rookie CB Denzel Rice (not good. he also let a 1st down catch completion later) let in the completion but Goode's aggressiveness resulted in the o-lineman holding which turned into a FG instead

G Julian Vandervelde got called for a hold that took away a Jordan Matthews TD, i forgot which play, prolly in the 2nd quarter. then Tim Tebow came in the 4th quarter...and seemingly regressed from last week. he looked very hesitantly and made poor throws. he also tried to run it in the endzone instead of throwing it to a wide open receiver. of course, got hit while running and didn't even scored

some last notes:
-DE Brandon Bair got a pass deflection and almost got the int from it, too
-CB EJ Bigger gave up a completion
-S Chris Maragos with a nice big hit on the TE
-S Jerome Couplin made a good hit to stop a short yd redzone trip to force FG
-3rd/4th team defense allowed another TD. great catch though
-P Kip Smith doing most of the FG, kick and punt off. ugly but effective
-rookie DB Randall Evans getting hit with a personal foul and illegal contact. not good
-rookie NT Travis Raciti looks good. penetrating and dropping back, surprisingly
-CB Marc Anthony finally ended the game with a pass break up
-S Ed Reynolds almost had another INT

the Eagles won 40-17

-Top Birds:

-QB Sam Bradford : his series was short. nice to see good decision, whether the throw was good or bad, it was the right throw. hope to see better things to come

-RB DeMarco Murray and Ryan Matthews: the 2/3 of the three-headed RB trio did well running and capitalizing in the redzone, which is something we were struggling with last year

-RB Kenjon Barner: the kid returned another punt for a TD. what more do you want?

-S Jerome Couplin: out of all the DBs, he stood out. made alot of plays and what's most important is no negative plays. he also was able to retrieve an on-side kick. any contributions on the special team will help

-1st team d-line: Barwin, Curry, Logan, Fletcher Cox, and Cedric Thornton all did well. looks very stout as always

overall - 2 games with over 35 points. again, it's just the preseason but it's still exciting. looking forward to see more of the 1st string playing more time. unsure about the depth of ILBs and DBs. also the o-line backups concerns me. they need to get better. more well adjusted to the system. protect our quarterback!

-Injury Report:

Marcus Smith is out with something; hamstring i think. TE Zach Ertz recovering from core surgery. besides that everyone's practically healthy
