Birdfeed PSG1 vs Colts

-Birdfeed: just a Philadelphia Eagles game feedbacks, inputs, and random junks

-PreSeason Game1: vs Indianapolis Colts

-Flight Time:
ahh...nothing says, "fuck off and leave me alone every Sunday, Monday and Thursday night for 17 weeks and hopefully longer" like the first preseason game. the Eagles got the PrimeTime slot on Sunday being the only game on at 1pm. so the nation all had their eyes on Chip Kelly and the most interesting team in the league.

i think it's safe to say that we have the most reliable backup QB in Mark Sanchez, assuming that Sam Bradford is donned the starter. also our backup's backup is also a polarizing figure. sorry, Matt Barkley, but Tim Tebow just somehow always grabs the media attention even though he doesn't intentionally draws it. with that said...
Bradford didn't play. coach's decision. also star RB DeMarco Murray, LB DeMeco Ryans, Mychael Kendricks, and Kiko Alonso didn't neither. along with TE Brent Celek and Zach Ertz. Sanchez would start for a half. Barkley took over 3rd and 1st series in the 4th and Tebow took over. Sanchez was ok. 2/7 for 52 yards and a TD pass that was thrown way too high like he was doing to TE Trey Burton, who seems to be catching everything, and RB Darren Sproles but rookie WR Nelson Agholor snatched it out the air and scored. speaking of Agholor, he shows flashes of speed and catch and run ability similar to Jeremy Maclin but he also had a few drops. hopefully he'll get the jitter out for Game 2.

Barkley came in and made some great throws, especially to 2nd year WR Jordan Matthews. he was 12/20 for 192 yards and 1 INT which was tipped by a rushing lineman. he also dropped a ball in nicely to WR Miles Austin, yes, THAT Miles Austin, to where he can only catch it. overall Matt did a great job. really lobbying for that 3rd spot. now when Tebow came in, the crowd went wild. i think it's more so for who he is as a person and not really who he is as a QB. he was 6/12 for 69 yards but ran in a TD 7 yards deep. he made some good throws, some questionable ones. the next game should give us a better insight on him.

one of the highlights from the game was a 92 yard punt return by RB Kenjon Barner. his first couple returns were all stuffed because instead of hittin the hole north and south, he stutter steps and end up getting tackled. he got lucky on that TD because he also got tackled but luckily the defender sucked and didn't wrapped up. he also had a nice run in for a TD in the red zone which the 2nd team o-line opened up a huge hole.
the other highlight was from our stout run defense. the 1st team d-line were terrific. Bennie Logan, Cedric Thornton and Fletcher Cox are truly one of the best fronts in the league. Emmanuel Acho and Naje Goode did well filling in. of course one of the story is also 2nd year 1st round "bust" LB Marcus Smith and his progression. he was said to have gotten bigger and better in coverage. he played well. i think allowed like 1 person got away but he did his job. didn't remember anything bad so that's good. we're gonna need more depth behind Brandon Graham and Connor Barwin.

last but not least, the special team. Jon Dorenbos is solid as always. so was Donnie Jones. they brought in a rookie punter, Kip Smith, i guess to challenge Donnie but i'm not smart enough to judge punters. i do know that Cody Parkey missed 2 kick, 1 PAT and a FG. like wtf man? it was only 30 something yards! get your shit together before the regular season!

oh also forgot to mention stand out S Ed Reynolds who picked off the Colts twice. 1 was a beautifully done in coverage just running with the receiver and the other was a good timing jump. he's really pushing to be the backup after Malcolm Jenkins and whomever starting with him. another DB worth mentioning is 2nd round rookie CB Eric Rowe. he did a solid job covering but did get beat once. however, he made it up by catching up and punch out the ball and recovered by S Chris Prosinski. Prosinski, by the way besides being a good special team player, was around the ball alot. the fumble recovery and another sure tackle on a RB that got away from a LB.

ps
local kid WR Rasheed Bailey shows some good hands. good luck to him. CB EJ Biggers did a good job. prized free agent CB Byron Maxwell also did a good job. i think he did allowed 1 catch. defense, especially noticeably the secondary, looks vastly improved. it is too early to say but *fingers crossed*

-Top Birds:

-QB Matt Barkley: yes, he had the pick. it didn't cost us the game and overall he did a great job. he's making a strong push despite reports of him being shopped

-TE Trey Burton: the 3rd TE has great speed and hands. with Celek being primarily a blocking TE, Burton and Ertz could be a dangerous TE duo. looking forward to see more from him

-S Ed Reynolds: really effective. 2 INTs. nuff said

-RB Kenjon Barner: showing what he can do not just rushing in for a TD but on a return as well. hopefully taking some load off Sproles.

-rookie WR Nelson Agholor: shows great potentials. good speed, YAC. needs more focused on catching and he'll be just fine.

overall - we put up the most points in the 1st preseason game than anyone. not that it means anything, still cool stat. gonna be an interesting backup QB race. how many RBs are we keeping behind Murray, Sproles, and Ryan Matthews? LBs look great. so does the DBs. front line is always spectacular. can't wait for next game!
