the Eagles announced yesterday or day before that they picked up LB Ernie Sims from Detroit Lions in a three-way trade with them and the Denver Broncos...i've heard of Sims name been shopped around, never heard anythin good from him - matter of fact, never heard of ANYTHIN good from the Lions except for Matthew Stafford...and to be honest, his (Sims) # doesn't impress me...yet, Reid says Sims' an "impact" player and will fit good with the defense
with that said, they decided to pick up a player who WILL be good with the scheme and let go of player who IS/WAS good with the scheme, ie: Chris Gocong. let's compare stats
yes...Sims has a more tackles and assist...but 2.5 sacks in 4 years?! granted Gocong's time on the field dwindled but he still had 4 sacks...plus regardless if people say Gocong isn't good against the run, he still had 8 PDef...while Sims had 5...for a guy who has the same time experience as Gocong...i didn't see the big deal...maybe they're lookin for run stopper to replace Jeremiah Trotter? maybe it'll pay off in the long run...like with the pick up of Darryl Tapp and Alex Hall...just hopefully it won't pick up after i turn 50 and reminiscin about Dawkins (who?) and McNabb (huh?)
